I was driving through a small southern town when I saw a beautiful nativity
scene. It had Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus in the manger, everything was just
perfect. Well, except for the three statues off on one side dressed as
firefighters.
Being hungry, I stopped into the diner across the street
from this scene. I asked the waitress "That's a beautiful nativity scene over
there, but what's with the firefighters?"
She rolls her eyes. "Ya dam
yankees don't ever read yer Bible!"
"I've read my bible cover to cover,
it don't say nuthin about firfighters!"
With a sigh of exaspiration she
grabs a bible from the counter, thumps it on my table and starts flippin the
pages. "See!?! Right thar. Three wise men, came from a
fire."
Don't get
it?
(In the sounthern accent in the US, "A Fire" is usually
pronounced the same as afar)
